Ingredients

  • 6 large ripe peaches peeled, pitted and sliced
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon ground
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour for the topping
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter cut into small cubes
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Baking dish
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, toss sliced peaches with honey, cinnamon, and lemon juice until evenly coated. Spread the fruit mixture into a buttered baking dish, creating an even layer.
  2. In another bowl, combine flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, and salt. Mix thoroughly to distribute the dry ingredients evenly.
  3. Add the cold butter cubes to the dry mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized pieces. This creates a buttery, crumbly topping.
  4. Sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the arranged peaches, covering the fruit completely with the crumbly mixture.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for about 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling around the edges.
  6. Remove from the oven and let the peach crisp rest for a few minutes. Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream if desired.
