Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh watermelon chunks seeded, ice-cold preferred
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves packed
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce or more to taste
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice freshly squeezed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt optional, to taste

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Sharp knife
  • Measuring cups or spoons

Method

  1. Place the watermelon chunks into the blender, ensuring it’s cold and fresh for the best icy texture.
  2. Add the fresh mint leaves to the blender, distributing them evenly over the watermelon for a vibrant herbal aroma.
  3. Pour in the hot sauce, lime juice, and sprinkle the salt over the ingredients, giving a spicy and tangy kick.
  4. Secure the lid on the blender and pulse a few times to break down the watermelon and herbs, then blend on high until smooth and slightly frosty.
  5. Stop the blender and check the texture; it should be thick, icy, and well combined, with bits of mint visible.
  6. Pour the chilled watermelon slushie into glasses, allowing the vibrant pink and green mixture to flow out smoothly.
  7. Garnish each glass with a sprig of mint or a thin slice of lime for an appealing presentation.

Notes

Adjust the amount of hot sauce to control spiciness. For a sweeter variation, add a teaspoon of honey or agave syrup before blending.
