Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice about 4 limes
  • 1.5 oz tequila preferably silver
  • 1 oz triple sec orange-flavored liqueur
  • 2 cups ice cubes large, fresh ice
  • 1 tablespoon simple syrup or agave syrup optional, for sweetness

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Juice the limes until you have about half a cup of fresh lime juice.
  2. Pour the lime juice into the blender along with the tequila, triple sec, and simple syrup if using.
  3. Add the ice cubes to the blender. Make sure the ice is evenly distributed over the liquid ingredients.
  4. Secure the lid tightly and blend on high speed until the mixture is smooth, slushy, and icy in texture, about 30-45 seconds.
  5. Stop the blender and check the consistency—if it’s too thick, add a splash of water or more lime juice and blend briefly to loosen.
  6. Pour the frozen margarita slushie into chilled glasses. Optionally, rim the glasses with salt or chili powder for extra flair.
  7. Garnish the drinks with lime wedges or slices if desired. Serve immediately for the best icy texture.

Notes

For a non-alcoholic version, replace the tequila and triple sec with additional lime juice and a splash of orange juice.
