Cherry Basil Slushie

Cherry basil slushies are vibrant frozen drinks made by blending ripe cherries with fresh basil leaves and lime juice, resulting in a cool, refreshing beverage with a slightly herbal and tangy flavor. The mixture is blended until smooth, resulting in a thick, icy texture that’s perfect for hot days. The final appearance is a bright red drink with tiny green basil flecks, served cold in a glass.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups frozen cherries pitted if fresh
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves roughly packed
  • 1 lime lime juice freshly squeezed
  • 1 tbsp honey optional, for added sweetness
  • ½ cup water cold, as needed to help blend
  • to taste additional honey or lime for adjusting sweetness and tartness

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Place the frozen cherries, basil leaves, lime juice, honey, and water into a high-powered blender.
  2. Start blending on low speed to break up the cherries, then gradually increase to high until the mixture is smooth and icy, about 30-40 seconds. You should see the mixture turn a vibrant red with tiny green flecks of basil.
  3. Stop the blender and taste the slushie. If it's too tart, add a small drizzle of honey and blend briefly to incorporate. If it’s too thick, add a splash more water and blend again until silky.
  4. Pour the slushie into chilled glasses, allowing the icy texture to shine through. Garnish with a fresh basil leaf if desired for an extra touch of green.
  5. Serve immediately with a straw or spoon, enjoying the refreshing, fruity, and herbal flavors combined in every sip.

Notes

To make this drink even more festive, freeze basil leaves in ice cubes and add them to the blender. Adjust sweetness by varying the amount of honey or lime to suit your taste. For a less tart version, add a splash of orange juice.
